Juxtaglomerular Apparatus -

  • It is located just adjacent to the vascular pole of the renal corpuscle.
  • The DCT comes in direct contact of the afferent and efferent arteriole and that region of the DCT forms the macula densa.
  • Macula densa is a cluster of cuboidal epithelial cells that monitors the composition of the fluid that flows through the DCT. 
  • They respond to the concentration of Na+ in the fluid and release the paracrine signals in the form of ATP and adenosine.
