  • The femur is the longest and strongest bone of the body.
  • Head of the femur articulates into acetabu­lum of the pelvic girdle.
  • Patella (knee cap) is flat, sesamoid bone, formed by ossification in the tendon of quadriceps femoris muscle.
  • Tibia is longer, thicker and lies more medially and front. 
  • The fibula is shorter, thinner and located more laterally and deeply. 
  • Each ankle is composed of seven tarsals.
