What would happen if ATP suddenly were not available after the sarcomere had started to shorten ?
Cross bridges would not be able to detach from actin
Muscle would remain in a state of rigidity
Muscle would relax immediately
Both (1) and (2)
As we have learned
Contractions -
The myosin, releasing the ADP and P1 goes back to its relaxed state. A new ATP binds and the cross-bridge is broken.
- wherein
The ATP is again hydrolysed by the myosin head and the cycle of cross bridge formation and breakage is repeated causing further sliding.
