According to Fajan's rule -
a) If the size of anion is large, it will be easily polarised. Hence the compound will be more covalent.
b) If the size of cation is small, its polarising power will be more. Hence the compound will be more covalent.

\mathrm{NaH}, \mathrm{KH} and \mathrm{CaH}_2 are ionic hydrides and with increase in size of cation, ionic character of such compounds increases.

In \mathrm{BeH}_2, the size of cation \mathrm{Be}^{+} is small and relatively high charge ion. Thus, it has a high polarising power. This gives significant covalent character to \mathrm{BeH}_2.
