(d) If the lift falls freely then the acceleration of lift will be acceleration due to gravity.

Using Newton's law of motion we can write : 

                                           R\ -\ mg\ =\ ma

or                                        R\ -\ mg\ =\ m(-g)

or                                         R\ =\ m(-g)\ +\ mg\ =\ 0\ N

Thus the reading of weighing scale will also be zero since there is no normal force.

This state is called the state of weightlessness.
