Q.1.    An echo is heard in 3 s. What is the distance of the reflecting surface from the source, given that the speed of sound is 342\: m\: s^{-1}?

Answers (1)

Given the speed of sound is 342\: m\: s^{-1}.

The time taken by the sound to travel from the source to the reflecting surface will be half of this time:

= \frac{3}{2} seconds

Hence,

Distance = Speed\times Time

Substituting the values in the equation, we get the distance,

Distance = 342\ m/s\times 1.5s = 513\ m
