Q. 11.22 Answer the following questions based on the P – T phase diagram of CO_{2} :

(a) CO_{2}  at 1 atm pressure and temperature -60^{\circ}C  is compressed isothermally. Does it go through a liquid phase?

The temperature of -60 oC lies to the left of the triple point of water i.e. in the region of solid and vapor phases. Once we start compressing CO2 at this temperature starting from 1 atm pressure it will directly convert into a solid without going through the liquid phase.
