Aryl halides are extremely less reactive towards nucleophilic substitution. Predict and explain the order of reactivity of the following compounds towards nucleophilic substitution.
Answers (1)
When the nucleophile is attached at the carbon carrying -Cl, due to resonance a stabilised intermediate compound is found. As the is electron withdrawing in nature, the nucleophile will get attached to the benzene ring easily. When the molecule contains more number of
groups, the nucleophile will be attached more easily. Hence, the order of reactivity is III > II > I.
