In a plant cell, green-coloured plastids are called chloroplasts. They provide a green colour to the leaves. Chlorophyll is present in the chloroplasts of leaves and is essential for photosynthesis. This is the reason that plants prepare their food while animal cells lack this ability due to the absence of photosynthesis.
