To find the ratio, we need to make both quantities of the same unit.

We know, 1 km = 1000 m. 

\therefore 10 km = 10x1000 m = 10000 m

Therefore the required ratio =

 \frac{5m}{10\times1000m} = \frac{5}{10000} = \frac{1}{2000}

= 1 : 2000
