Similar to light, sound also follows the law of reflection.

If I sound is coming at an incident angle =  \angle i 

reflection angle,

\angle i=\angle r.

In the given question, the sound coming through the first pipe has an angle of incidence equal to 40°

that can be calculated as

= (90° - 50°) = 40° 

The same sound will be reflected at an angle of 40°.

Therefore, the second pipe has to be kept at an angle of 40° from normal.

Therefore the value of x = 40°.
