Gametogenesis:

  • The process by which gametes are formed is known as gametogenesis.
  • In flowering plants, male gametes are located within pollen grains produced in the anther, while female gametes, or ovules, develop within the ovary of the flower's pistil.

Pollination:

  • The movement of pollen from the anther to the flower's stigma is known as pollination.
  •  It can either be self-pollination (within the same flower) or cross-pollination (between different flowers).

Fertilisation:

  • The process by which the female gamete (ovum) and the male gamete (pollen) fuse to form a zygote is known as fertilisation.
  • Fertilisation occurs after the pollen tube grows from the stigma through the style, transporting sperm cells to the ovule in the ovary.

Embryogenesis:

  • The process by which a zygote develops into an embryo.
  •  The embryo eventually forms structures like the embryonic root (radicle), shoot (plumule), and seed leaves (cotyledons).
