Unlike tomato’s pericarp, which is differentiated into epicarp, mesocarp, and endocarp; the pericarp in pea pod is not differentiated into many layers. The arrangement of seeds in a fruit depends on placentation. Pea flower shows marginal placentation, while tomato shows axial placentation. Placentation refers to the arrangement of ovules in the ovary.
