The velocity-time graph (Figure) shows the motion of a cyclist.

Find (i) its acceleration (ii) its velocity and (iii) the distance covered by the cyclist in 15 seconds.

Answers (1)

Explanation:-

  • From t=0 s to t=10 s: The velocity increases uniformly from 0 to 25 m/s, indicating constant acceleration.
  • From t=10 s to t=15 s: The velocity remains constant at 25 m/s, indicating zero acceleration.
  • From t=15 s to t=25 s: The velocity decreases uniformly from 25 m/s to 0, indicating negative acceleration.

(i) As there is no change in velocity, we can say that its acceleration is zero all the time.

(ii) If we observe vthe elocity-time graph, we can easily deduce that velocity is constant and equal to 20 m/s during complete motion.

(iii) The distance travelled by the cyclist can calculated by the formula:

s = v t = (20) (15) m = 300 m

Hence the distance travelled will be 300 m.
