Scientists have yet to understand the proper cause of the large-scale extinction of amphibians. Some of the possible reasons might include:

  • Amphibians have different reproductive needs, they are terrestrial but require aquatic habitats for reproduction. 
  • Habitat destruction and modification due to deforestation and industrialization.
  • Water bodies are getting polluted.
  • Introducing exotic predatory species like catfish, feed on frogs and tadpoles.
  • Pesticide use.
  • Ultraviolet-B radiation.
