This method of separating components of a mixture is called winnowing. Winnowing is used to separate heavier and lighter components of a mixture by wind or by blowing air.

This method is commonly used by farmers to separate lighter husk particles from heavier seeds of grain.

 Winnowing is used to separate heavier and lighter components of a mixture by wind or by blowing air,eg:-wheat grains and husk are the different in weight,husk being lishter then wheat.When this mixture is allowed to fall down from a height,the wind carries the lighter husk with it and the heavy grains fall vertically down on the ground.This process is used by farmers separate lighter husk particles from grain.
