What would happen when one grows a recombinant bacterium in a bioreactor but forgets to add antibiotics to the medium in which the recombinant is growing?

Answers (1)

In the absence of an antibiotic, the recombinant bacterium does not need to produce a gene, which can make it resistant to the antibiotic. In other words, there is no pressure on the recombinant bacterium to make the desirable gene. Thus, in the absence of antibiotics, a gene of interest will not be produced by the recombinant bacterium.
