(a) As iron,zinc,lead,copper etc are moderately reactive metal and ore present as sulphides or carbonate metal is obtained from its ore by reduction or by electrolysis to reduce a carbonate ore metal from middle reactivity series zinc. zinc ore is concentrated and roasted in air to produce zinc oxide zinc oxide and carbon oxide. CO_{2} are formed when ZnCO_{3} is roasted in air.

ZnCO_{3}(s)\rightarrow ZnO(s)+CO_{2}(g)

Zinc oxide produced from ore is then heated with carbon to reduce it into metallic zinc.

\underset{(s)}{ZnO}+\underset{(o)}{C}\rightarrow Zn(s)+CO(g)

(b) Copper is present low in reactivity series.It mainly occur in form of sulphids which can be convert into correspond oxide by heating in absence of air as ROASTING. The obtained oxide then reduced with C or any other reducing agent to obtain metal.

2Cu_{2}S+3O_{2}\rightarrow 2Cu_{2}O+2SO_{2}

2Cu_{2}O+Cu_{2}S\rightarrow 6Cu+SO_{2}

Then it purified by electrolytic .The impure copper metal is made ANODE and pure metal of copper is CATHOD copper sulphate as electrolyte.Pure copper from electrolyte deposited on cathode soluble impurities goes into solution and insoluble impurities remain in the solution and deposited at bottom of ANODE. Following reaction take place :

ANODE : Cu\rightarrow Cu^{+2}+2e^{-}

CATHODE : Cu^{+2}+2e^{-}\rightarrow Cu
