Force and laws of motion class9 example

Answers (1)

1. While traveling in a motorcar/ bike, we tend to remain at rest with respect to the seat.

But when we apply a braking force to stop the bike  then we tend to fall in the forward direction. Because with the application of brakes, the bike slows down but our body tends to continue in the same state of motion because of its inertia.

2. When we are standing on a bus and the bus begins to move suddenly then we tend to fall in the backward direction. This is because the sudden start of the bus brings motion to the bus as well as to our feet in contact with the floor of the bus. But the rest of our body opposes this motion because of its inertia.

3. If you throw a heavy ball or block away from your body, the force exerted will push back on you, possibly pushing you back onto the ground.

4. If you jump from a height on a hard floor, you can hurt your feet because the feet come to rest in a very short time, and hence, the force exerted on your feet by the floor is very high. That is why athletes doing high jump land on sand or foam as it increases the time in which the body comes to rest. The sand gives way, allowing the body to slow down gradually. which decreases the force on the body, and the landing is comfortable.
