A formal report is an official report that contains detailed information, research, and data necessary to make a business decision.

Two types of formal reports are Informational reports and Analytical reports.
 

Informational Reports gathers data and facts to draw a conclusion.
Analytical Reports contain the same information as informational reports but it also offers recommendations to solve a problem.

 

Format of Formal Report 
It is divided into three section
Front, Main, and Back section.

The front section contains title page, transmittal letter, and table of contents.

Title Page contains the Company name, Name, and title of the party for whom a report is prepared, Name and title of the preparer,date

A transmittal letter is a letter informing the recipients that the letter has been included in the packet
Table of contents include the title of the topic on which report has been prepared 

The main page includes the detailed report, information, and data of the topic on which the report has been prepared 

Back section of the report contains a summary of the major points, conclusion, and recommendation.
