(i) Refractive index measures the bonding of light when travelling from one medium to another. The refractive index is the ratio of the speed of light in the vacuum to that in the air.
n= \frac{c}{v}
(ii)

 sini_{c}= \frac{30}{\sqrt{\left ( 30 \right )^{2}+\left ( 40 \right )^{2}}}= \frac{3}{5}
where ic  is the critical angle
n= \frac{c}{v}= \frac{1}{\sin i_{c}}
\Rightarrow \frac{c}{v}= \frac{5}{3}\Rightarrow v= \frac{3}{5}\times c
v= \frac{3}{5}\times 3\times 10^{8}
v=1\cdot 8\times 10^{8}\, m/s
