Answers (1)

(1) If the sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO_{3}) is added to ethanoic acid (CH_{3}COOH) liberates CO_{2} and form salt and water.

If sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO_{3}) is added to ethanol (C_{2}H_{5}OH) it does not react with ethanol

CH_{3}COOH + NaHCO_{3}\rightarrow CH_{3}COONa +H_{2}O+CO_{2}

C_{2}H_{5}OH + NaHCO_{2}\rightarrow No reaction

(2) When ethanoic acid (CH_{3}COOH) reacts wuth NaOH it gives sodium salt and water but ethanol does not show its reaction
