Covalent compounds - Covalent compound are that compounds which are formed by sharing of electrons between atoms of compounds.

Ionic compounds - Ionic compounds are those compunds which are formed by the transfer of electrons.

Difference-

  • Ionic bonds are between metals and non - metals while the covalent bonds are between the non - metals.
  • Covalent bonds have low melting and ionic compound have high melting point.

Properties of covalent compounds :-

(1) Low boiling points

(2) Poor conductors of heat and electricity
