Desirable agronomic characteristics for crop improvements are:
1. Cereals should be dwarf so that their stem will be stronger so that they can withstand in the strong winds. Due to dwarfenss, nutrient requirement would be less. If cereals possess large ears they will produce a large number of grains.
2. In fodder crops, tallness and branching are the desirable traits because more branching and good foliage will increase their productivity. Also, fodder crops are meant to be feeding cattle therefore, their stems should be; large and juicy.
