What is 'rusting' ? Describe with a labelled diagram an activity an activity to investigate the condition under which irons rusts.
Rusting refers to the phenomenon which involves the slow eating up of iron by the action of air, moisture or a chemical on its surface resulting in the formation of a brown flaky substance on it called rust.
Iron nails undergo rusting in test tube A because the nails are exposed to both air and water.
Iron nails do not rust in test tubes B and C. Because In the test tube B, the nails are exposed to only water, and the nails in test tube C are exposed to dry air.
Hence the above diagram clearly depicts the conditions under which iron rusts.
