It is composed of blood cells and villi which are formed to provide nutrition to offspring.

Structure of the placenta : 

It is a disc type structure which is embedded in the uterine wall this structure contains chronic vill\finger like structure 

Functions of the placenta : - 

1) It helps in the transfer of waste generated by the embryo 2) It helps in providing nutrients to the embryo

3) It produces hormones which support pregnancy
