There are three types of motion.

1) One–Dimension

2) Two-Dimension

3) Three-Dimension

And in 2- D motion two coordinate is used to describe the motion of an object.

When a swimmer crossing a river, Its displacement is both along the river as well as across the river. So it is an example of  2- D motion.
