Given  cos\: x=-\frac{11}{4},    lies in the third quadrant.

We know that  sin^2x+cos^2x=1

        Implies sin^2x=1-cos^2x

                                 =1-\left ( \frac{11}{4} \right )^2

                                =1-\left ( \frac{121}{16} \right )

                                =\frac{16-121}{16}

                                =-\frac{105}{16}
