Solution

Given-

Assuming vertically downward direction to be along y direction and horizontal direction to be x direction.

velocity of rain = 3\hat{j}

velocity of boy = 4\hat{i}

\vec{V}_{RB}=\vec{V}_{R}- \vec{V}_{B}

=3\hat{j}-4\hat{i}

|\vec{V}_{RB}|=\sqrt{(3)^{2}+(4)^{2}}= 5 kmph
