 The work done in the irreversible process is

\mathrm{W = -P(V_2-V_1)}

\mathrm{V_1 = 0.5L}

\mathrm{V_2 = 1L}

Putting all the values we get,

W = -2(1-0.5) = -1 L.atm

       = -1^{*}101.3J = -101.3J         Note = (1 L\: atm = 101.3 J)

Also,  \Delta E=q+w

\Delta E=+140J-101.3J

\Delta E=+38.7J
