The oxygen that exists in soil particles diffuses into root hairs. Oxygen is transported to all areas of the roots for respiration via root hairs. 

During the respiration process, oxygen is converted into carbon dioxide gas, which is disseminated in the opposite direction, out of the roots, by the same root hairs that complete the root respiration process.

Option 2 is the correct answer.
