The regulation of red blood cell (RBC) production is not accomplished by follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Instead, it is controlled by the hormone erythropoietin (EPO). EPO is a glycoprotein hormone that is produced by the kidney. When oxygen levels are low, EPO is released and circulates to the bone marrow. In the bone marrow, EPO stimulates stem cell division and accelerates the development of RBCs, ultimately increasing the blood's oxygen-carrying capacity. Hence, the correct answer is option 4 which states that the Assertion is incorrect but the Reason is correct.
