Lenticels

  • These are the air exchange structures in a woody tree.
  • It consists of loosely arranged thin-walled cells that are present in the form of small protrusions on the surface of the trunk, roots and fruits.
  • Lenticels are never present on leaves.
  • These are formed at certain regions when the cork cambium cuts off loosely arranged cells instead of cork cells.
