  • Photosynthesis is a Physico-chemical process by which plants use light energy to drive the synthesis of organic compounds.
  • The use of energy from sunlight by plants during photosynthesis is the basis of life on earth. 
  • Photosynthesis is important due to three reasons:
    • It is the primary source of all food on earth. 
    • It is responsible for the release of oxygen into the atmosphere by green plants.
    • The light energy is converted into chemical energy that can be stored and transported in plants.

Oxygen is a by-product of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis primarily occurs to fix the inorganic carbon to organic carbon. Hence, the correct answer is option c.
