Reduction of nitrate into ammonia

1.Reduction of nitrate to nitrite

NO_{3}^{2-}+NAD(P)H+H^{+}\xrightarrow[Nitrate reductase]{FAD/FMN}NO_{2}^{-}+H_{2}O + NADP^{+}

2. Reduction of nitrite

2NO_{2}^{-}+7 NAD(P)H+7 H^{+}\xrightarrow[Nitrate reductase]{Ferreclorin} 2 NH_{3}^{-}+4 H_{2}O + 7 NAD (P)
