The fruiting body of ascomycetes is called ascocarp. It can be of various shapes. 

  • Globose and closed ascocarp is called as Cleistothecium (Penicillium).
  •  Flask shaped ascocarp with an apical opening is called as Perithecium (Aspergillus, Claviceps).
