Thyroid hormone contains two hormones. Tetraiodothyronine or thyroxine and triiodothyronine. Iodine is essential for the normal rate of hormone synthesis in the thyroid. Deficiency of iodine in food causes hypothyroidism and enlargement of the thyroid gland called simple goitre. Hence, option 1 is the correct answer.
