\mathrm{Be} and \mathrm{Al} show diagonal relationship.

Due to similar charge/ radius ratios of beryllium and aluminium ions have strong tendency to form complexes.

For example, beryllium forms tetrahedral complexes such as \mathrm{BeF}_{4}{ }^{2-}and \left[\mathrm{Be}\left(\mathrm{C}_{2} \mathrm{O}_{4}\right)_{2}\right]^{2-}and aluminium forms octahedral complexes like \mathrm{AlF}_{6}{ }^{3-}and \left[\mathrm{Al}\left(\mathrm{C}_{2} \mathrm{O}_{4}\right)_{3}\right]^{3-}.

Maximum co-ordination number of \mathrm{Be} is 4 while that of \mathrm{Al} is 6.
