Alkali metal have only 1 valence shell electron. So, they tend to readily lose 1 electron to attain noble gas electronic configuration and give unipositive M^{+} ions. Since, they readily lose electron, they are strong reducing agents.

As we move down the group, the electropositive character of alkali metal increase because the size of element increase and nuclear charge decrease and thus required less energy to remove the electron from outermost shell.

The reactivity of alkali metals increases as we move down the group due to their larger size and low ionization enthalpy. Thus, Cs is highly reactive among alkali metals.
