Taking torque about the knife edge in both cases:

4 l_{1} = ml_{2}                ---- 1

m l_{1} = (1)(l_{2})        ---- 2

\frac{y}{m} = \frac{m}{1}            \implies m^2 = y

                                        m = 2 kg
