Reason: In sapwood, conduction does not occur.

The assertion is incorrect because heartwood is the inner dark-colored part of the wood of a tree composed of dead cells filled with resin, gums, tannins, etc.

The reason is also incorrect because in heartwood conduction does not occur. Whereas sapwood is the outer light-colored region of the tree trunk consisting of living cells and helps in translocation.

Option 4 is correct.
