As we have learned

Haplo-diplontic life cycle -

Sporophyte and gametophyte both are photosynthetic and free living.

- wherein

Eg  All bryophytes and pteridophytes some brown algae (Laminaria). Ectocarpus, some green algae (ulva and cladophora)

Diplontic life cycle:

1. The dominant phase is photosynthetic independent diploid sporophytic plant.

2. Meiosis occurs in spore mother cell (2n) and produces gametes which represent the only gametophytic stage in life cycle.

3. The gametes undergo fertilisation immediately and form a zygote which in turn give rise to sporophytic plant body.
