Phaeophyceae / Brown algae -

Major pigments present are chlorophyll a, c, carotenoids and xanthophylls (fucoxanthin).

Reserve food is carbohydrate (laminarin or mannitol).

 The brown colour of phoeophyceae is due to the presence of large amount of xanthophyll called fucoxanthin
