Classification of glands on the basis of mode of secretion -

a) Holocrine - Whole cell disintegrates as secretion. eg: Thyroid, parathyroid, sebaceous.

b) Merocrine - Secretion by simple diffusion (exocytosis) cells remain intact. Example: sweat gland, salivary gland, pancreas.

c) Apocrine gland - Apical part of cells is shade to discharge. Ex: Mammary gland.
