Let the required distance be x cm
For eye piece,

=-\frac{1}{25}-\frac{1}{u_{e}}=\frac{1}{4} \Rightarrow u_{e}=-\frac{100}{29} \mathrm{~cm}

\Rightarrow$ Image distance for objective $=\left(20-\frac{100}{29}\right) \mathrm{cm}=\frac{480}{29} \mathrm{~cm}.
\frac{29}{480}-\frac{1}{x}=\frac{1}{2} \Rightarrow x=\frac{480}{211} \mathrm{~cm}

\text{Required magnification} \: M=\frac{211}{29}\left(1+\frac{25}{4}\right)=48
