Lateral roots are formed from the pericycle, which is a layer of cells located just inside the endodermis in the root. Therefore statement P is wrong.

The root cap is a specialised structure found at the tip of plant roots. Therefore statement R is also wrong.Hence, the correct answer is option 2.
