  • The heart of cockroach lies along the mid-dorsal line of the thorax and abdomen. 
  • It is an elongated muscular tube consisting of 13 funnel-shaped contractile chambers. 
  • Each contractile chamber of heart contains inhalant openings called ostia on either side
  • Blood from the sinuses enter the heart through ostia and is pumped anteriorly to the sinuses again. 
  • The pumping of blood is brought about by the contraction and relaxation of fan-shaped paired muscles called alary muscles.
