Pharynx is a funnel shaped muscular passage helping in both processes of respiration and digestion.

The buccal cavity is extended into it while the nasal cavity opens into it. Then it will open into trachea and oesophagus posteriorly.

It begins at the base of the skull and ends at the inferior border of the cricoid cartilage (C6). The pharynx is comprised of three parts (superior to inferior):

  • Nasopharynx

  • Oropharynx

  • Laryngopharynx.

Hence option A is correct.
