  • It is the uninterrupted circle of the protective lymphoid at the upper ends of respiratory and alimentary tracts.
  • It consists of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissues (MALT) that produce B and T lymphocytes.
  • These produce IgA.
  • It is made up of the following lymphoid tissues:
    • Pharyngeal tonsils
    • Tubal tonsils
    • Palatine tonsils
    • Lingual tonsils
