Two open organ pipes of fundamental frequencies f1 and f2 are joined in series. The fundamental frequency of the new pipe so obtained  will be ?

\begin{aligned} & f_1=\frac{f}{2 L_1} .....1st\\ & f_2=\frac{f}{2 L_2} .....2nd\end{aligned}

When these two pipes are joined in series, the fundamental frequency of the new pipe:

$$ f^{\prime}=\frac{f}{2(L1+L 2)}=\frac{f}{2 L L+2 L 2}

Using eq 1st and 2nd:

\frac{f}{\frac{f}{f_1}+\frac{f}{J_2}}=\frac{f_1 f_2}{f_1+f_2}
